The Toys Strikes Back! (for kids aged 5-10)
Our current show ”The Toys Strikes Back!” is an improvised show for kids aged 5-10.
Could your doll become a prince? Your little car a terrible death-machine from space? Could your football be a magical apple? Everything can become stories to tell. Even the toys in your room!
”The Toys Strikes Back” consists of different improvised stories based on the toys the kids bring to to the show. Every day the stories are new, but the game is the same – transformation and co-creation. A blank page for every performance – a big opportunity for the toys and the stories they hold. An opportunity to strike back!
The actors enter unknown, thrilling and comic stories together with the kids, who get to help out through suggestions and fysical participation. Is this theatre or just fun? Or something better? Who knows and who cares!
This is Theatre Isenkrams honest attempt to take the way kids play seriously. Some sort of party where they celebrate theatre and playing and the deep connection between them. ”We want to give the space of theatre back to the kids, and inspire them to see that theatre is everywhere,” says artistic director and actor Nils Petter Mørland. The performance tries to explore the question of where and how theatre begins. And the kids are let into the process.
The project was broadly founded by the Norwegian Art Council and Fund for Performing Artists Norway (FFUK). After premier may 2008 it has toured norwegian schools, festivals and theatres and recieved very good feedback. There is also a growing international interest for our work, and during its first year it played in festivals in both Estonia and Lithuania. In the 09/10-semester the show will continue to tour schools in Norway and have been invited to play in festivals in Germany, Canada and Latvia. Our international touring has been funded by the Norwegian Office of Foreign Affairs, Norwegian Association for Performing Arts and ASSITEJ Norway. The shows had within its first year played 68 times and was seen by more than 6500 people.
