7 Days. Genesis (3+)

“Were we the first to come to this Earth?”, “How was I created?”, “How was the world created?”. Questions like these and sometimes in an odd formulation might be asked by any child.
Santa Didžus’ performance “7 Days. Genesis” gives truthful answers to these questions.

The performance is like a big animated picture book where everything is live and moving and while watching it you feel like plunging into the sea, sinking deep into in a flowering meadow or soaring high like a bird.

This is an unusual performance. The story of Genesis, the First Book of Moses, is told by Kaspars Znotiņš voice to the music composed by Kristaps Pētersons, and all can be watched as subtle interaction of light and darkness on a round white screen. Five young actors from the Youth Centre of the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church, using their heads, hands, fingers, legs and even hair, delineate pictures about God creating plants, fishes, animals and man.
The director is convinced that verbal presentation complemented by appealing to other senses help a child to get the message much deeper than mere listening to it, therefore the visual, the kinetic aspects are of a great importance when answering the question about the creation of the world by using means of expression that are fascinating and essential to children.

Up till now no performance in shadow technique has been produced in Latvia, thus “7 Days. Genesis” can be regarded as the first attempt and it has been hailed by favorable criticism.
